We tried this but as the original owner doesn’t recall the username he can’t change the password. Can this be retrieved so the password can be changed?

– Username is also stored in the users table. To change username, click the edit button (the pencil icon) next to your user and change what is entered into the user_login field.
– The password is encrypted and stored in the database in the users table. To reset password, review https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/resetting-your-password/
– To change the email address for the admin user account, click the edit button (the pencil icon) next to your user and change what is entered into the user_email field. – You can update the admin email for your site in the wp_options table, and replace the email address in the row with the key “admin_email”.

I don’t understand how we can access the user table if we can’t even login into the site itself?

You’ll need to access your server via SFTP or FTP (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics), or a file manager in your hosting account’s control pane.
If don’t know how to use it, ask your hosting provider for assistance.

Thanks for keeping this thread open.
We have managed to change access and have the correct email but we have tried multiple times to reset the password and the email has not come through to the designated email.
We checked spam folders and spelling of the email address.
How can we get the email to change the password?
