• I’ve built a nextgen gallery on a linux box and then migrated it to a Windows server 2012. I’m having a heck of a time getting the template to load on the page where I’m displaying my gallery thumbnails. If I login to the admin, I can see all my galleries and all photos, but on the display page, all I see are the ‘not a valid template’ message. For each gallery it displays this message (6 times on the page).

I’ve tried everything I can think of in terms of editing the path (in the database and on the admin page). This is what I’ve loaded and works on the linux box in the Gallery admin – NextGEN: album-compact.php.

When I look at the code on the page where the gallery thumbs should display, I see this <img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” src=”http://mysite.com/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–834″ alt=”” />. And if I pull that link up in a browser, it displays the image. It almost seems like the url is not being transposed into the display url (such as http://mysite.com/engaged/photobook/nggallery/2014-company-picnic-at-the-zoo/2014-company-picnic-at-the-zoo).

Any ideas of what else I can try or edit?

Thanks,
jeff

@jwebadgility – Have you tried the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options? This often helps with sorting out migration related issues.

That was kind of my last resort – I really don’t want to lose all my galleries. I don’t know for sure if that will happen, but I didn’t want to take the chance. Can you confirm what will happen if I reset?

Thanks,
Jeff

@jwebadgility – You will not lose your images, galleries, or albums … the Reset Option will just put the plugin back to its default installation settings.

Thanks – reset didn’t change anything. What I ended up doing was going into the database and editing all the ‘_transient_’ paths for each gallery. For whatever reason, the transient rows had ‘{Not a valid template}’ in them. I had to add my html in it’s place from my original working website database and then it all worked.

I did an export of my original db, I’m wondering if my html failed to make it thru the export.

@jwebadgility – There is that possibility. Sorry to read you had to manually update your database but glad to know it’s working now.

Hi Cais,

Well an interesting thing happened. After I had manually updated the _transient fields in the database, they reverted back to ‘Not a valid template’. How can this be and what do I do to fix it?

Thanks,

@jwebadgility – You could try clearing the image cache (again?), or you might consider this plugin (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/transients-manager/) to clear all of your site’s transients (well, most, there are a few that should be there in some cases).

See if that helps with this issue.

I had not cleared the image cache – how do I do that? Thanks for the suggestions! I will try them all.

@jwebadgility – You can clear the image cache under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous … or force clear NextGEN Gallery caches with something like:
http://example.com/?ngg_flush=1

Ok – so I think the puzzle is coming together. I cleared the cache and the transients. Then I went to my photogallery and it generated new transients with ‘Not a Valid Template’. Do you know where that is being generated? Where ever that is seems to be the place I need to edit.

@jwebadgility – Displays are dynamically created and that is when the transients are written. This is the standard process of the plugin used in every single installation.

If the Reset Option and clearing the caches is not correcting this then it may be a rare case where our external Reset Tool plugin is needed.

Please send us a Bug Report (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) so we can get that tool into your hands.

Thanks!

– Cais.
