    Hi
I have a website using nextgen pro slideshow and yoast.
I have upgraded to the latest version of yoast this morning but I am still having trouble indexing my images on my galleries.
Nextgen pro slideshow is being used.
But see my sitemap. ( no galleries or images on sitemap?)
    https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/5201950/02c0684aa493625477760196b2c66fab
Also google doesn’t seem to be indexing the images.
    In yoast settings
Media & attachment URLs = yes
    Picture tag = yes
    post formats = yes
( extra setting’Show Formats in search results?’ = no by default)
I tried this on yes but get the same results.
Have I missed a setting. Is this a known issue?
If so can you advise on next steps?
    thanks!

  • Hi @lainyrache,

One way to see if your images are being indexed is to do a site search in Google Image search. For example, type in “site:example.com” using your domain to only see results from your site in Google Images. Do the images from the gallery pages appear?

If the NextGEN Gallery slideshows are compatible with Yoast SEO, we would expect to see the images listed in the page-sitemap.xml or post-sitemap.xml sitemaps for the pages where they’ve been embedded. If you go to those sitemaps and then use view source, do the image URLs appear?

Please note that the setting for “Media & attachment URLs” is related to media attachment pages and isn’t related to whether Google can index your images. We recommend keeping the option for “Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?” set to “Yes”.

    Hi Priscilla
    Thank you for the reply
I had already viewed site.example search and could see that only main pages were indexed.
Some images are being picked up by the images section of google, not as well as I would expect and mostly from the old website and externals.
    BUT
I checked as you asked on the view source on sitemap.xml and it looks like the images are listed for galleries.

Perhaps Albums is the problem ( not galleries) ?

    See: https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/5208637/fc5313ffcfb4ec818df3392048a0ddbf

In this particular example ‘galleries’ is my home page.
This is displaying a nextgen ‘album’ ( A collection of galleries)
The images on my home page are stated as zero on the sitemap. But I know the home page contains many preview images linking to the single galleries.

Albums are often used on my home page or main sections.
As this is usually an important landing page it does have significant impact if it is not indexing properly?
Or have I missed something obvious?

    NOTE also
Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?” IS set to “Yes”.
…but even if I am NOT using lightbox the images redirect from google to the parent gallery. Never to the single image page.
    many thanks
    lr

Do not use short links in these forums, that has been abused in the past and is expanded when found. I have expanded yours.

Ah.. apologies I thought I was being helpful.
    thanks

@lainyrache Thanks for your reply. Regarding the images in the sitemap, some themes or page builder modules may not show the images on the sitemap.

You may need to add them via a filter: wpseo_sitemap_urlimages. This filter will then register images to appear on the sitemap. We have additional information on this here: https://yoast.com/help/images-in-the-xml-sitemap/

If you are not sure how to use the filter you may wish to speak with your theme or plugin developer.

As for the ‘Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself’ setting, this setting only handles redirects for the attachment URL pages and redirects those to the image. It would not create a redirect for an image file or a gallery, only for an attachment page URL to the image itself.

We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
