    Nightmare update.

I don’t know how much time I wasted yesterday trying to work out why my nice one-page checkout no longer worked, and why customers were taken to a lame, unformatted page where (having already clicked a ‘pay’ button) they were again asked again to ‘place order’ with a child-like display of order number, date, amount and something else.

I thought I’d buggered something up and spent a couple of hours trawling through three different sites using the stripe plugin to see where they were different. As a final last-straw option, I reverted the plugin from 4.1.2 to 4.0.6 and lo… the problem evaporated.

The problem is the ridiculous, brain-numbingly bad update. Who, on this planet, thinks it’s a brilliant idea to add an extra stage into a payment submission process, yet another screen and button for customers to click? Of those who said yes and evidently don’t have e-commerce websites, who thinks it’s a good idea to explain the entire screw-up with a single comment in plugin docs along the lines of “since 4.1 th eprocess now requires an extra step.” Full stop, end of explaination, end of documentation.

I cannot think of a less e-commerce friendly update than this. Fortunately I never allow auto updates on my sites – never – and so I still have copies of 4.06 and will now refuse to update until someone creates a stripe plugin that doesn’t do its best to totally ruin the payment process.

    A seriously badly thought-out update.

    Hi there,

It’s true that the Stripe Checkout feature of the Stripe extension now has an extra step. The solution is to use the standard credit card form instead of the Stripe Checkout popup. This is done by navigating to your Stripe settings at WooCommerce > Settings > Stripe and unchecking the Enable Stripe Checkout option.

    Sorry what? Why?!
So how do we go back to having the modal popup, from checkout page, like it used to be?
Having one more page, just to fill out a form is totally unnecessary! How do we revert back?!

    Hi @dukessa

Is there a need to have this modal popup on your site? We find that a lot of customers use the standard checkout fields rather than the modal popup.

You would have to revert back to a version before 4.1.0. Can I suggest trying without the Stripe Checkout option enabled and using the main checkout fields which are powered back Stripe?

I totally agree with @bristoltutor2 as this is just total waste of time and the Pop Up modal seems to be more Trusted and secure rather than using standard checkout fields, so i think plugin author should bring the old feature back which was more accurate.

On a personal note, of all the websites I use, I cannot think of one which uses a modal popup for card payments.

The form fields are standard across e-Commerce sites and when you use Stripe, the card forms are using Stripe Elements which is secured and controlled from their side.

The current process is here to stay as this helps failed orders and checkout field validation for orders. If you feel there is another way to do this, please do collate some information and present a solution to the developer on a GitHub Issue.

We’ve discussed this part of the update and this behavior is correct so I’m going to mark this as resolved – using the standard card fields is overall a better solution for your customers.

If you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

Having an additional page, just to make a payment, is unheard of @dougaitken
Not sure on which websites you’ve seen that.
However, you could at least have left the option to keep the modal and add the inline form as optional, or even default.
It’s never a good idea to force users that are accustomed to a certain UI to dramatically change it like that… so at least give us the chance to warn them and introduce it gradually.

Anyway, thank you for working on the addon, would just appreciate if you talked to your users before making dramatic changes.
