• I have taken over a site for a client built by another developer. I have created an admin user via mysql and can log in successfully.

However I can’t get to the normal wordpress admin dashboard. I get re-directed to a custom screen. Without access to the dashboard i can’t change the plugins / theme / pages / settings etc etc.

Does anyone know how to find out what’s going on, or bypass the redirection so that I can get to the normal wordpress admin screens and dashboard.?

  • Hello, pmburden, & welcome. If you could provide an url, that’d be most helpful. Also, please note that you can disable the plugins folder via FTP (preferably secure FTP) simply by appending a 1 or .old to the plugins folder name. That will disable any plugins that might be redirecting wp-admin. Additionally, you could try using /wp-login.php following the site url instead of /wp-admin & see if that helps.

    Thanks for reply
    1) URL is http://tackup.website-builders.nz
    2) The problem is not getting to the login.php, I’m able to login fine. However once logged in – it just then goes to home page not the dashboard. There appears no way to get to the dashboard whether you are logged in or not.
    3) I will try disabling the plugins from file manager – but the plugins installed don’t look like they would be the problem.

pmburden, you’re clearly using some sort of website builder (maybe GoDaddy’s?). I’m not precisely sure how these things work. I can see, for example that you have a login link on your homepage that would take you to a login page for the website builder account (seems rather dangerous, actually).

I could ask to look at your .htaccess file, as well as your wp-config.php file (please ensure you’ve removed all credentials from it), but I’m not sure how effective it would be given the tool you’re using. Have you asked your hosting provider?
