• I’ve used this plugin for years to create backups and push them to a remote site over ftp. I has an ftp connection in the settings, but it never attempts to actually use it. It also now stores backups ON THE SERVER no matter what you do. I don’t have space for that which is the whole point of FTP. I am sorry to see this plugin die. I’ll now have to write my own solution in bash. I wish I had access to the plugin this used to be.

    Hi @dkscudder ,

We hear your frustration, and we’re really sorry the recent updates have led to this experience—especially after years of relying on BackWPup.

You’re absolutely right that storing backups only on your server defeats the purpose when you’ve configured FTP. The good news is: we’re actively working on bringing back more control, and starting with version 5.2, each scheduled job now includes a “Backup Now” button that uses the job’s settings, including FTP.

The ability to unselect local server storage—so that backups are sent only to your chosen destination—is also in active development and will be coming in a future update.

We’d love to win back your trust. If you decide to give the plugin another try, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help. Thanks again for your years of support.
