No more sidebar
-
Plugin was working. Did updates and now no custom sidebars. What happened?
All I want to do is replace the main sidebar (which does work) with a custom sidebar as in the good old days before something changed. What changed? what do I need to do to get this to work again?

Hi @mr. Driz,
Thanks for posting on the forums.
In the recent version of Custom Sidebars plugin the Custom Sidebars functionality is integrated in to widgets page to make it more easily manageable as displayed in the attached screenshots.

Please advise if you have more questions.

Thanks for your reply. progress but no solution
I have version 2.0.9 and the screenshot on your site to insert the sidebar in the page or post is different. Your screen shot shows a pull down menu for a content sidebar and a primary sidebar. What I see on the edit page or post pages is a box called main sidebar and first front page widget area. There is a pulldown menu with a selection of the sidebars. Unfortunately selecting a sidebars produces nada, no sidebar.
why is screen shot different ? is that why I cant get the sidebars inserted on a page?PS. All of my sidebars are gone. They do appear in the widget section. Bringing them back to their pages and post is where I have the problem. Cant get a sidebar to show on post or page.

This is because sidebar names are depend on how we have registered it in the theme but it doesn’t affect the functionality of Custom Sidebars plugin.
You will find more information about this plugin on the following pages.

Could you please explain it a bit more in detail?
Cant get a sidebar to show on post or page.
To change the default sidebar of post or page with the custom sidebar make the default sidebars replaceable by checking the checkbox “Allow this sidebar to be replaced” displayed at the bottom of the default sidebars in the widgets page on the following path as displayed in this screenshot http://i.imgur.com/m8VKrIu.png .
Admin Area -> Appearance -> Widgets
After this create a custom sidebar from the same widgets page by clicking on the button “Create a new sidebar” as displayed in the following screenshots.
http://s.w.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/screenshot-1.png
http://s.w.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/screenshot-2.pngThen if you want to display different sidebars for different post or pages then replace the default sidebar with the custom created sidebar in the post or page edit screen as displayed in the following screenshot.

If you want to display a custom sidebar for all posts or pages then you can do so by clicking on the link “Sidebar Location” in the created custom sidebar on the widgets page as displayed in this screenshot http://i.imgur.com/y2HFaLZ.png and select the post type for the custom sidebar as displayed in the following screenshot.

Hi @mr. Driz,
Thank you for sharing the screenshot.
I checked the books page on your site and its sidebar but didn’t find the widgets added in to its sidebar in either of your sidebars “Main Sidebar” or “First Front Page Widget Area” that you have displayed in this screenshot https://www.dropbox.com/s/moghxw2h50u5quw/Screenshot%202014-07-26%2010.19.24.png
See what i see on your books page sidebar http://i.imgur.com/hGscxcG.png
Is your books page sidebar hard coded in your theme or it is a different sidebar not displayed in your shared screenshot?
Please advise.

WPMU DEVHello WPMU.
I have temporarily moved over to another sidebar plugin and that is what you see. Would prefer to return to Custom Sidebar, once we solve the problem.
Hi there @mr. Driz,
We’d love to get that solved as well, and from what I can from your previous screenshots, you didn’t actually add anything to the Books sidebar.
Could you please add some widgets there and maybe provide a screenshot of those widgets from that widget page along with a screenshot of how that then displays in the front-end?
Looking forward to getting this sorted with ya! π
Cheers,
DavidHi @mr. Driz,
Thanks for providing those screenshots! Could you please let us know how it works with Widget Context deactivated?
It could be that Widget Context is somehow disallowing the widgets so that’d really help to see.
In fact, would it be possible to try deactivating all other plugins to see how it works with that?
From what I see, you’re using Twenty Twelve theme, which is great since it’s a default theme, excellent for testing purposes. But if you could let us know how that goes with other plugins deactivated that’ll help narrow down the issue as it’s not something I can seem to replicate.
Thanks,
DavidHi there @mr. Driz,
Hope you’re doing great today! We haven’t heard back from you on this so this has been marked as resolved.
But if there’s an issue still, just let us know, we’ll be happy to take another look.
