No notifications sent
-
The Test-E-Mail is sent, but not the notifications.
I tried different types (new comment, new post, new category) – nothing worked.
I installed the plugin in two systems, one with WP Mail SMTP, one without – didn’t work.
Have you any idea?

Hi @bitjockeys,
Thanks for your message. How are you triggering the notifications? Is it via the WP Admin or via a front-end form?
Hi @voltronik
thank you for your quick answer.Maybe i have a basic misunderstanding.
I thought it would work like this:- I set up a notification, e.g. for “new comment”
- a website-visitor writes a new comment
- the WP system automatically sends the notification mail
What exactly are the triggers all about?
Do I need to activate a trigger?
How does this work?Hi @bitjockeys,
Apologies – I didn’t explain this very well.Once you’ve set up a notification in BNFW, such as a ‘New Post Published’ notification, all you have to do to ‘trigger’ that notification is to publish a new post in the WP Admin. You don’t have to set-up any other kinds of ‘triggers’.
If you’re setting up a notification for New Comments, it’s worth checking that you’re:
- Using the correct New Comment notification (a notification exists for each post type on your site, e.g. post, page, movies, events, etc.).
- Followed the guidance under the ‘New Comment’ section of this page: https://betternotificationsforwp.com/documentation/notifications/available-notifications/
- Using the default WordPress commenting system and not a 3rd party plugin or replacement.
Let me know if this helps.
no, sorry, this doesn’t help, I already did this before:
– I set up a notification (Type “Posts” -> “New Comment”)
– I wrote a new comment for a post (anonymous, in a separate browser)
– I did NOT receive a notification mail!
(Testmails from bnfw work well, also mails from WP for “Email me whenever anyone posts a comment”)Hi @bitjockeys,
No problem – there’s more we can check. Can you post a link to a screenshot of the whole screen when editing your New Comment notification?
Hi @voltronik,
here are some screenshots:

If you want, I could give you an Admin-Login to the system. (It’s a testing system)
Hi @bitjockeys,
Thanks for sending these through.I’m wondering if the theme is using a different hook or something for posting a comment.
Can you switch to the default Twenty Twenty Three theme and re-test?I switched the theme, but it makes no difference.
Hi @bitjockeys,
As we’ve tried a few things and I’ve been unable to replicate your issue, please can you make your way through this document and let me know how you get on?Hi @voltronik
I now installed a completely new system. Newest WP-Version, theme Twenty Twenty-Three in newest version, no plugins but bnfw and classic editor.
Doesn’t work.
I receive the standard-WP-notification and the bnfw-Testmail, but not the notification after a new comment. Then I installed the plugin “Email Log”:
The bnfw-notifications are not listed here, they were not sent.
It is not a problem of my spam-filter.Then I installed “WP Mail SMTP”, but this didn’t help either.
I would like to ask you again, if I could send you a login to the system, so that you can see yourself.
Maybe it is just a simple thing, that I don’t see, but I really have no idea what this might be.
Hi @bitjockeys,
Thanks for continuing to test this. It’s difficult as I can’t replicate it and I’ve had no other reports of any issues like this with either the latest version of BNFW, or the previous one. As such, I think it’s probably something specific to your set-up or your server. Are you able to record a video of your whole screen showing how you’re testing this and post a link to it here so I can see?
Unfortunately, I can’t provide a level of free support where I log into your site to investigate this.
