Yes, it should work fine for Twenty Ten. You don’t put the open button inside the SideMenu, you put the open button elsewhere on your site such as in your main menu …
- Go to “Dashboard – Appearance – Menus”
- Choose the menu that is assigned to the “Primary Navigation” display location or create a new menu and assign it to that display location
- Under “Add menu items” expand “Open SideMenu” (if it isn’t already expanded) and tick the box next to “SideMenu”
- Click “Add to Menu”
- Click “Save Menu”
You will now have a button to open your SideMenu from your primary menu in the Twenty Ten theme.

Thank you … and of course I wasn’t thinking. An open button in a closed sidemenu would be rather useless. 🙂
