I just started a new blog and am still setting things up. I used the No Comments Plugin to remove the option to comment on pages. However, I never touched anything regarding posts as I want people to be able to post comments there. I’ve got my comments turned on in my Discussion area as well. However, no matter what theme I use, no comments box appears on posts.

I never touched anything to remove comments on posts with the plugin but fear that it may have done so anyway without my knowledge. Is there any section I can get into to turn them back on only for posts? The site is http://www.junkmunch.com.

  • Hi Zdiddle, is this the screenshot of your plugin?
Can you try yo de activate the plugin, and re activate it, then one by one try the options.

If the above step does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I deactivated both of the plugins and deleted them before, which is where I’m at now. Even after the plugins are gone, the comments are turned off on pages (fine) and on posts (not fine). I switched to the Twenty Fifteen theme and left it there but still can’t see any post options on my test post.

Since it doesn’t seem to be theme or plugin related anymore, is there a way that it could be related to something deeper? Is there a way to start with a clean slate and just redo the site before anything really goes up?

the comments are turned off on pages (fine) and on posts (not fine).

    – To disable/able comments on future Posts, check “Allow people to post comments on new articles” in Settings -> Discussion.
    – Then where you create/edit posts in admin, check if you have ticked comments for your posts/pages in the “discussion” box below the editor. If you don’t see the “discussion” box there, in the ‘screen option’ dropdown field (located near the top right), there are tick-boxes to show the ‘discussion’ box for the posts/pages. Tick mark it. In the ‘discussion’ box below the post/page editor, you can then allow/disallow comments for the page.

Tara, I had the first one done, so I tried the second. I never knew that drop down option was there and I’ve been using WordPress for years! That fixed my problem and I ran a second post test – it automatically allows comments on posts now.

Thanks everyone for the help. Really appreciated!
