I have also been missing my Place Thumbnail/Logo for some time. I’ve just been too lazy to say something about it.
chiropracticanchorage.com – about halfway down the page you can see what I’m talking about.
Any idea how to fix?
Thanks
Hey guys,
Somehow this ticket slipped past us.
@christee – can you give us a link to your site to take a look? And a link to your G+ Profile page?
@rumsant – Can you give us a link to your G+ Profile page? I see a thumbnail on your site, just not sure if it’s right or not.

I just noticed that the plugin is now showing a thumbnail…it’s just not the thumbnail I have set up as the G+ profile thumbnail.
Thanks for the help.
This is because Google’s API doesn’t provide the actual image in their API so we have to do a “workaround”. The Pro version of this widget actually allows you to set the business avatar image to be any image, but not the free one.
Thanks for your question!
I have the pro version. I can’t figure out how to set the avatar image. Point me in the right direction?
Go into the widget and click on Display Options tab
I uninstalled the plugin a while ago, since the thumbnail did not work and I received no response to my query.
The missing thumbnail had nothing to do with my business; it happened for any place – see the state park examples in my original description above (which is how I would have used it on my travel site).
I am using the free version on a clients website and the business avatar is also just a default graphic (map with a red cross over it) from Google.
The Google Places listing does have an avatar set though.
I have viewed the demo video of the pro version of the plugin and the ‘Display Options’ section contains no additional settings than the free version by the looks of it.
Please can you advise how I can get the businesses’ avatar to display?
Thanks in advance.
Hey @zigojacko – Unfortunately, due to Google’s API we have limited capabilities to grab the proper image therefore use a workaround that works for nearly all businesses but a few have a problem as you see here. The Pro version allows you to customize the image using a convenient uploader, but this isn’t currently in the free version. We’re going to add a fallback method into the free version too soon, so if you don’t want to upgrade you may want to stick around for that update.
Okay thanks, client upgrade to pro and now we have set the avatar. Thanks
Thanks for the heads up.
