I’ve installed this plugin, and have managed to get as far as the box displaying – but the Daily Quote does not display inside the box.

I followed the advice you gave to someone else with what appeared to be the exact same problem, but I still have no text displaying inside the box.

It’d be great if I could get this working properly, and so appreciate any support that can be provided.

    Cheers.

A few things come to mind.

    1) Did you go to settings and click save to build the template?

    2) How are displaying the quote: widget or shortcode?

    Thanks.

    Hi, sorry for delayed reply.

Yes, I did save the build template. That was the thing that got the actual box to display – before I did that nothing was showing.

I’m using a widget – on the sidebar – to display the quote.

I’ve must say that I have fiddles about with the CSS for certain reasons – one to remove the underline of hyperlinks. However, I removed that CSS and the quote still did not display, even though the box works fine.

Is there somewhere I can stick the code to override any other previous CSS, just in case?

    Hello,

Correct. You must save the default template the first time you use the plugin by visiting settings and clicking save. So that is why the quotes box appeared.

The widget is working if you are seeing the quote box theme.

CSS could be an issue but removing underlines for links should not have any impact.

    1) Do you have any posts on your site?

    2) Is there any html in your quotes or just plain text?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I retried today and have managed to get some text to display – so it is working to some degree.

It appears that what happened is when testing the 366 day element I used a few sample texts (11) that were broken up to fill the 366 days. Looking down the list of days, it seems that, for whatever reason, some of the days are blank – no text having been allocated.

I’m currently in the process of gathering together the 366 quotes I want to use and will then test it.

Perhaps the problem is the way I am formatting the text. Here are a few of examples of quotes:

    [Manna – January 1]
O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of His praise to be heard: which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved. Psalm 66:8,9
THANKS be to God that His grace has preserved us, “kept us from falling,” through another year:–that so many of us are still of one heart and of one mind in respect to His Word and its service! When we remember that the Adversary is to be permitted to bring “strong delusions” upon the Lord’s people for the very purpose of sifting out all not truly His (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12), it should surely call forth our thanks to God that the opening of another year finds us still standing fast,–appreciating the Truth, and in full accord with all the divine appointments by which He has kept us from falling. Z.’03-3 R3125:2

    [Manna – January 2]
Ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19,20
AT the opening of the new year, what lesson could be more important to us than this one, that we are not our own, but belong to another; that we are not therefore, to seek to please ourselves, but to please Him; nor to seek to serve self, but to serve Him; nor to seek to obey self-will, but on the contrary His will? This means holiness in the most absolute and comprehensive sense of the word (not only separation from sin to righteousness, but separation from self to the will of God in Christ). Z.’97-35 R2099:4

    [Manna – January 3]
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
WHATEVER might be our natural inclinations with reference to definiteness and persistency in prayer, we must take our instructions from the Scriptures; and overcoming our natural predilections, we must as “little children” and as “dear children” conform our views and conduct to the instruction which is from above. Let us all, therefore, remember the words, “ask (in My name), and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”–John 16:24. The Heavenly Father has multiplied mercies, blessings and providences in store for His obedient and faithful children who will ask for them. Z.’96-162 R2005:5

Basically, I plan on having 366 similar quotes and pasting them into the relevant space – although I somehow have to figure out how to get day on to start as January the first – and so on.

Will this work, or do I need to do something specific to ensure these quotes display fully as I have demonstrated?

    Hope that makes sense.

    Cheers.

Each quote must be on one line. If you want line breaks use the HTML br code. So things like:

    [Manna – January 3]<br>Line 1<br>Line2<br>Line3

Also this plugin does not allow you start on a specific day. What it does is get the current day count of the year and grab that from the database. So if the current day is 110 days into the year then it will load the 110th record. This is the reason for 366 to cover leap years. So during a leap year the count would be off using your method.

    Thanks for the reply.

Well, the good news is that the text is actually displaying. Also, using the <br> tip, I am able to get the quote to display as intended.

Now, I simply need to add all 366 quotes, and see if I can get the day to start with the current date – which for me is 24th March.

    Otherwise, thanks for your assistance.

    All the best.

I’ve managed to get it working – and removed February 29th – to get the correct day showing. I had to include a blank ‘—‘ which I placed at the end of the year to make up the 366 days. I’ll have to remember to check it in the New Year, and to add the extra day come a leap year.

Otherwise, one last question, with this HTML am I able to format the posts to include Italics, Bold, etc.?

    Thanks again.

I’ve answered my own last question by testing it, and confirming I can italicise the text! Thanks for this plugin – really good; and also your support.

Please feel free to close this thread as I feel my problems have been resolved.

    Cheers.

    Good deal.

I did program this to fully support HTML.

I have thought about changing the plugin to add a 29th Feb box for leap years since some have said they want to use actual dates in their information. Something for the future.

At any rate enjoy the plugin and a honest review rating for this plugin using the WordPress review system helps the community.

    Thanks.
