I have installed Jetpack on my new website on my local machine. The website will go live with a hosting service that is not ww.wp.xz.cn. To learn and play I want to explore usage of the Jetpack plugin on my local server, but is appears that I must ‘connect’ to the ww.wp.xz.cn site. Now as I am behind firewalls and stuff and my physical IP address is not static this proving to be a pain. Are there alternatives or have I missed the plot, ? Do I have to use the ww.wp.xz.cn service ?

    Regards
    Mike Brice

    Jetpack Mechanic 🚀

A lot of the Jetpack modules require a connection to a WordPress.com account to be fully active. Your site consequently needs to be publicly accessible for you to make that connection.

If you want to experiment with Jetpack in a closed environment, you can enable jetpack’s development mode, as explained here:
    http://jetpack.me/2013/03/28/jetpack-dev-mode-release/

It will allow you to use all the Jetpack modules that do not require a WordPress.com connection.
