Hey there, I really love your plugin, but today I found and issue:

Due to GDPR, we need a consent-function on most of our websites, so that visitors have a choice to allow tracking to third parties like YouTube/Google or not.

Most of my sites don’t use any third party services, only those pages & posts, where videos from YouTube/Google are embedded.

For these sites I don’t need to apply a consent-banner (like Complianz, Real Cookie Banner or Borlabs), but rather a consent-layer on top of the video-thumbnail, which is provided by the brilliant and free “Embed Privacy” plugin by epiphyt.

Problem is, that it does not work well with (also brilliant) Presto Player. Is this something you can try to solve, maybe in cooperation with epiphyt?

    Kind regards
    Sascha

  • Hello Sascha,

For now, you can enable this – https://d.pr/i/IweiuU via Presto Player settings > integrations.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

    That does not help.

Even with this option enabled, the Scripts are still being loaded from YouTube and therefore harming GDPR-compliance (and performance), as you can see on this screenshot. Cookies are not loaded indeed, but that’s not the enough in order to comply.

The plugin mentioned above (Embed Privacy) is doing a perfect job in order to prevent illegal tracking. It’s a shame that Presto Player is not taking care about GDPR-related requirements, since millions of users and visitors are affected.

Any other solution you can advise?

Thank you in advance and kind regards,
    Sascha

    Hello Sascha,

    Thank you for your update.

I am still checking this with our development if there is a way from our end.

In the meantime, Youtube nocookie is a delayed cookie option.

    https://www.cnet.com/news/youtubes-new-nocookie-feature-continues-to-serve-cookies/

As far as we know, the workaround for Youtube is to use nocookie + lazy load youtube, then add a consent message underneath the video. Nothing will load from Youtube until the video is clicked.

    Hope that helps.

Again: This is NOT about cookies. And GDPR is not about cookies only.

The links and argument you provide do not relate to what is happening here: Scripts, fonts and other assets are being loaded from YouTube WITHOUT the visitor’s consent.

Hi There! Happy to help here.

3rd party solutions like “Embed Privacy” this are designed to block direct embeds (from Youtube, etc.) and do not work out of the box with our player. We will have to build a integrated solution for this ourselves.
