Hello. I installed the plugin about a week ago, and set it up according to the “How to Use” guide. Made a new GA account, grabbed the tracking ID from it and pasted it into the plugin, chose Universal Analytics and saved. I checked my GA account today and there is still no data.

I changed the tracking method today from Universal Analytics to Global Site Tag but I am skeptical that it’s going to help. Do you know what could have possibly gone wrong? The set up seems very simple and the tracking ID is definitely correct, I double checked it. My plugins, theme and WordPress are updated. My theme is Divi from Elegant Themes.

I would appreciate any help, thank you.

    Hi Jan,

    Glad to help.

The plugin only does one thing: adds the required tracking code to your web pages. Literally everything else — the crawling, data collection, etc. — that is all up to Google. So with that in mind, if you have an URL, I can let you know if the plugin is adding the tracking code to your pages.

I would appreciate if you checked it for me.

Thanks, yes I am seeing the tracking code on your pages and it looks correctly formatted, etc. So that’s all good for the plugin side of things.

One thing that may be affecting Google’s ability to crawl your pages, I am seeing JavaScript errors such as this one:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'appendChild')
        at load_cm (sa.js?key=e9ec81lzhn9n1hwwpl7kg7sr:27:584)
        at sa.js?key=e9ec81lzhn9n1hwwpl7kg7sr:28:1
        at sa.js?key=e9ec81lzhn9n1hwwpl7kg7sr:28:137

That’s not related to the GA plugin, but it should be fixed nonetheless. JavaScript errors may affect Google’s ability to collect data, etc.

You also may want to triple-check that your tracking ID is correct. Then if still not seeing any data, you may want to ask in the Google support forum for help.

I hope this is useful, let me know if I can provide any further infos.

I haven’t fixed the JavaScript error yet, but changing the tracking method from Universal Analytics to Global Site Tag fixed the problem and GA is now successfully collecting data from my site.

For anybody else who encounters the same problem, I suggest you do this first.

Great, glad you figured it out @luciusgodmode. Definitely important to use the correct tracking ID. Cheers.
