    Hi,

Been using this plugin a while now and pretty simple to use.

I post to Twitter via goo.gle shortlink and until recently, all was well.

However, when the link is now selected, it is not sending click to the ‘affiliate link target url’ i.e. it’s sending the click back to my site which it should not?

I disabled the plugin, reset permalinks for htaccess file.cleared my cache and browser history and tried again.

    Same thing happens?

    Any ideas please?

    Many Thanks

  • Hi @rik0399,

Great to hear you’re getting some use out of the short links feature.

If you’re using goo.gl to create a short link of the cloaked affiliate link then it will send them back to the site to then redirect them to the correct place.

Would I be able to get you to write into [email protected] with an example link? I’d need to see the shortened URL, the cloaked URL on your site, and the end destination URL.

Keen to get to the bottom of this for you but probably best we continue on the support line for this one.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Well, I thought I had this resolved but it seems not.

I have tried all sorts of ways to figure this out but links posted on SMNetworks are not being directed to the ‘affiliate’ link address; they are being redirected back to my site instead?

I do not categorise the links when I create them. I copy the link and link them to a post.

As I am using goo.gle shortlinks, you suggested that this maybe the issue; but looking further, I cannot see how this can be?

    Any ideas please?

    Many Thanks

    Hi,

Okay, so I have carried out some tests.

On Twitter, some affiliate links go to the the target affiliate URL and some which are exactly the same in terms of setup, redirect back to the home listing site URL?

    Why is that please?

    Many Thanks

    Hi @rik0399,

As with our support reply on the other support line the original issue was due to your shortened link going to the incorrect cloaked URL.

Can you double check the ones that aren’t working and verify what those shortened links are pointing to?

It should include the link prefix, eg. example.com/recommends/some-product

    Hi,

    Thank you,

Your right, I checked one of the urls as you suggested.

As I do not categorise these in thirsty affiliates I had :

    example.com/recommends/some-product

However, when I first started using it, I DID categorise but then removed but failed to notice that plugin did not revert them back to the default and remained unchanged :

    example.com/recommends/shopping/some-product

Do I need or what is the point of categorising these links?

Also, as a suggestion to avoid this in the future, how about making sure that when a link in TA is changed, it reflects this in the cloaked url.

Now I know this, I face having to change hundreds of the blighters! πŸ˜‰

    Many Thanks

    Hi,

When I thought I had it, and after nearly two weeks, it simply does not work and believe me, I have tried ALL ways.

Where can I get a copy of the previous version please as I believe that did work?

    Hey @rik0399,

I’m still not 100% clear on why this isn’t working for you. There’s been no change in the way we cloak URLs much of that code was copied across from the old version (just rewritten to fit in to the new code structure obviously).

So you have a shortener like goo.gl or bit.ly and you’re shortening a cloaked ThirstyAffiliates URL, right?

Are these Thirsty links 301 redirected? or 307/302?

If it’s a 301, then your browser might be caching the redirects so when you change the destination URL in your Thirsty link its still redirecting the shortener service’s goo.gl link to the original.

If you could run a test by creating a ThirstyAffiliates link, setting it to 301 redirect, then shorten with your shortening service (goo.gl or which ever one you are using), and visit it. Then try changing the destination URL on the ThirstyAffiliates link and revisit the goo.gl link I’m betting it will not change destination.

However, if you visit the same URL in a different browser or in Incognito/Private Browsing mode, it will goto the new destination.

Let me know if I’m understanding the problem properly or not?

Thanks! Keen to get to the bottom of this for you, but I’m 99% sure changing back to the old TA will not be the solution.

    Hey @jkohlbach,

So you have a shortener like goo.gl or bit.ly and you’re shortening a cloaked ThirstyAffiliates URL, right?

    yes > goo.gl

Are these Thirsty links 301 redirected? or 307/302?

Tried 301 which did not work for me, so now testing on 302

However, if you visit the same URL in a different browser or in Incognito/Private Browsing mode, it will goto the new destination.

I tried an online browser (https://www.browserling.com) with the same results i.e. goes back to my site instead of redirecting to affiliate link?

So I don’t think its my browser in terms of caching

Thanks for getting back to me πŸ˜‰

    Hi @jkohlbach,

Okay, tried 302 and separate browser > IE11

No change, click returns to homepage, not set affiliate link?

    Hi @rik0399,

Can you show send me the goo.gl link and let me know what it is set to redirect to?

    Thanks πŸ˜‰
