    FYI: I just turned on Maintenance Mode and started a core and plugin update.

    However, the Maintenance Mode screen didn’t appear, just the standard WP nag:

    Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

  • @jcollier that’s because something failed… You should have a file .maintenance at the root of your wordpress instalation. Delete it and it should bring back the wordpress. Just FYI this .maintenance file is not created by us. This is created by wordpress itself everytime You install a plugin or manage to update wordpress.
