Not working as expected

    I’ve used AAM a fair bit before, but for some reason on the site I’m developing at the moment, it seems to working ‘backwards’.

    The aim is to restrict a user to only edit certain pages. So, I’ve created a role and added the user to that role. I then configure the role by going to Posts & Pages, and then configuring the default access for Pages to disable everything. That works just fine – the user can’t see any pages or add any either.

    So then I want them to be able to see 4 particular pages. So I drill down to each page, and reverse the default settings being inherited from the Pages root. I would now expect the user to be able to see & edit those pages, but they still see nothing.

    When I say ‘backwards’, if I do the opposite of what I want to do then it appears to work. So leave the default access for Pages to allow everything (works fine, they can see & edit every page, and add new as well) and then block access to a specific page or pages – and voila, they disappear from the list of pages the user can see.

    But I don’t want to have to configure the access on 58 individual pages for each role I create – that’s how the default access thing should work right? Well for some reason it’s not.

    Hi Doug,

    Appreciate your feedback. Please do for me few steps and confirm that it works for you.

    1. Make sure that you are using the latest AAM 3.4.1;
    2. Make sure that AAM Plus Package extension is updated to the latest version 2.3.2;

    In order to know the extension version, please download AAM development version from here and replace AAM in your wp-content/plugins folder. After that, you’ll be able to see extension version right next to the extension name on the Extension tab.

    1. AAM version is 3.4.1
    2. Extension version is 2.3.2

    Hi Doug,

    I’ve been running few test and was not able to replicate the issue on my end. It works as expected.

    Every single time when I set default access to all posts and then changed it for few particular posts, it worked for me perfectly fine.

    Can you try to reset all AAM setting on Utilities tab? You might have some corrupted data from previous versions.

    Hi Vasyl,

    I had already reset all the settings previously, just in case something weird was going on. I’ve also created a brand new role and user, and tried explicitly doing what I need to do with them but it makes no difference.

    Is there a way to remove the plugin completely, including ensuring all references are gone in the DB, to allow a fresh install?

    Hi Doug,

    We found a bug in the code and it has been fixed. The new release 3.4.2 is coming tonight but you already can download it from here.

    I’ve just updated to 3.4.2, but it doesn’t appear to have made any difference to the behaviour. I’ve even tried by creating a new role & user, but still the same.

    Hi Doug,

    Make sure that you do not overwrite access setting on user level.

    Also to speedup the process, can I have admin access to your website? There is something you might be missing in settings because we cannot replicate the issue anymore.

    For ALL,

    If you experience similar issue here are few things that you absolutely must check first.

    1. You have the latest AAM 3.5 or higher;
    2. You do not have LIST and LIST OTHERS POSTS checked because AAM will double-block access to your post or page if it was not created by an user;
    3. Make sure that you do not overwrite access settings on user level.
