    Hello,
we are using this plugin for many years. Now, we have installed a staging area on another server. We suppose that loading times will be much better there. Unfortunately, the plugin is not working there. Because of some layout changes we have to resizes the images but nothing happens. The directory /wp-content/cache/adaptive-images remains empty, although it is set to 755. So, we suppose that maybe some php modules might be necessary for this.

    .htaccess test / test123456

Your support is very much appreciated
    Thanks & best regards

    Hello, Thomas,

Thank you for being a long time Adaptive Images user, we appreciate it!

Since you changed server and possibly the internal urls and paths have changed as well, have tried saving the Adaptive Images settings anew to make sure that the new urls and paths are saved in the plugin settings?

Also, thank you for setting up a test environment for us. In that environment the Adaptive Images plugin seems to be active and working, but when a smaller image is indeed requested that request fails with a 500 server error. This might be due to a missing PHP module although this should have been detected by the plugin itself and reported to the admin in the dashboard.

Here is a url to test this https://wp-tests.de/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/A1-Uta-1200×1800.jpg?resolution=320,1. It requests an image as if that image was requested by a 320px wide device with a pixel density of 1. Since this produces a 500 error, if the server debug is on, you should be able to see some relevant message in the error_log or the debug.log. Could you copy and paste that message for us here, so we can check it out?

    Cheers,
    Takis

    Hi Takis,

many thanks for your support. In the error log there is no error as described by you. There is only the following message (several times):
    143.110.217.244:39218] #shell2ban.web2ban#6#695779f8dbfe05c8d9b9ee130af42c92#[www.wp-tests.de] https://www.wp-tests.de GET /config.json HTTP/1.1 403 “” “Go-http-client/1.1″#
Does it mean that something is blocked?
    Best regards

    Hello, Thomas,

Thank you for your reply! The error message you mention does not ring a bell, but I cannot be certain. Is it possible to consult your server hosting admin on the issue and ask if perhaps Fail2ban blocks internal htaccess PHP rewrites/redirects? There’s a small chance this is the case.

Also, could they disable Fail2ban temporarily and then check the same url, just to make sure if we are looking in the correct direction?

Lastly, let’s make sure that WP_DEBUG is enabled in your wp-config.php file!

    Cheers,
    Takis
