I used this plugin to create a custom navigation sidebar for all pages and bbPress posts [ver is 2.3.2]:

    http://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wordpress-custom-sidebar/

    It works only for pages–

    http://66.147.244.145/~typeheri/forums/status/

not for bbPress forums, topics, replies, etc.

So I tried Content-Aware Sidebars. When I set the sidebar to appear on all pages and bbPress posts, it doesn’t work at all.

Since the Custom Sidebar plugin allows me to assign it to pages where I want it to appear, I reverted to that method.

Next I tried setting the Content-Aware Sidebars plugin to work only for bbPress posts.

My theme [Suffusion 4.4.6 with bbPress and child-theme support] offers a “Sidebar 1 Bottom” widget bar, so I drag the custom sidebar widget there.

For bbPress posts only, I set the CAS widget to replace “Sidebar 1 Bottom.”

So far, it isn’t working for me… According to firebug, there is nothing there.

Am I overlooking a step or doing something wrong? Can you suggest a solution? Maybe a “manual” setting?

Many thanks for your help–I can’t wait get this super widget working!

    Anna

You will have to create different sidebars for different content, when their types can collide. This is why, taken from the FAQ section:

My new sidebar is not displayed where I expect it to?
All content rules are dependent of each other (when they collide), which makes it possible to create extremely focused rules for where to display a sidebar; e.g. with posts written by a given author and with a given category. However, this also means that it currently is not possible to create a single sidebar that should be displayed with posts by a given author or posts with a given category.

Note the exposure setting as it determines whether the selected rules apply to archives, singulars or both.

If you want to make a sidebar appear with all forums and their topics, use the following settings:
    Content: Show with all Forums
    Exposure: Singular & Archive
    Replace: Sidebar 1 Bottom

Thanks for the tip—I’ll try it ASAP.

In the meantime, I found a second solution that works for now:

    http://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/view/plugin-reviews/custom-sidebars

Who knows? My site structure is a bit complex with a few more page-vs-forum-post workarounds needed, so I may want to use both methods.

I’ll leave this thread “unresolved” for now and will report back after testing.

Thanks again for a powerful plugin, Anna
