• I’m using my blog to store not just photos and posts, but also my old artwork. Some of it is NSFW, and I’d like to be able to change the gallery thumbnail to something else or make it blurry to indicate its nsfw, but I can’t find any subjects to help guide me. If this is yet another feature that WordPress is forcing you to pay for in order to use, I may end up going back to hand coding my website rather than rely on WordPress anymore.

So, you ask for support by starting with a threat? Do you understand the nature of a community and work performed free by volunteers?

Unfortunately, while there may be a plugin for this, doing any sort of search on pixelating or blurring thumbnails brings up dozens of “how to” posts on how to fix, not create, blurs. I think this may require custom development, but you could use one of the image optimization plugins to de-optimize the thumbnails.

Another alternative would be to find a gallery that lets you upload thumbs and full-size images separately.

Good luck. Maybe someone here will have a better idea.
