or if its does not work with this theme can you give me css to edit the background colour on them?
You seem to have included the calendar via Elementor. I’m pretty sure the CSS selectors are no longer accurate and likely won’t work. I’m sorry.
Are you actually using The Events Calendar plugin by Modern Tribe? I don’t see anything related to it in page source.

If you are using The Events Calendar it’s possible the Elementor integration so modified the output so much that Category Colors no longer is capable of functioning with it.
I don’t see any evidence of a normal The Events Calendar plugin in your page source.
The data might be from The Events Calendar but the rendering is from Elementor.
