After using the local version of Broken Link Checker for many years, I’ve taken the leap of faith and switched to the online version. I have many links to pages with this error message/state. I checked several of these in a normal browser tab and they all exist and have acceptably fast response times. Here are a couple of the links which fail:
Could you please provide the exact error code that BLC is displaying? It might be a temporary issue with accessing the link, or sometimes the site’s firewall is blocking the Broken Link Checker bot for various reasons.
We are actively working on improvements, but some aspects of the issue are beyond our control since we don’t have access to these site firewalls.
I’ve since run the scan a couple of times and the number of “1 Something Went Wrong” messages is stable, despite the referenced URLs working when clicked on.
The “1 Something Went Wrong” usually shows up when the BLC IP and UA are refused or blocked by the server, which results in a status code of 1 error.
However, can you please share the site URL for which you performed the scan so that we can take a closer look? If you are not comfortable sharing the URL publicly here in this thread, please feel free to email us at [email protected] using the following template.

I checked the logs at our end, and there wasn’t any further information available. As I mentioned in my previous response, it appears that the BLC bots started crawling the URLs mentioned. But after scanning URLs, the BLC IP and UA are refused or blocked by the server, which results in a status code of 1 error.
I am afraid that, as these are controlled at the specific server end, there is nothing much we can do from our end. You need to manually check such URLs to ensure they aren’t broken links and ignore them manually from the results.

Thanks for following up and explaining what the error code means. It is unfortunate that the sites block the discovery process. I’ll mark them as “ignore” in the future.
