The problem: I attempted to edit the comments php (to number comments and alternate colors) and blew up my blog. So I attempted to restore the original comments.php using a backup file.
This worked, except that all of the comments are now invisible to visitors. Visitors can see commentor names but not the actual comments.
I can see all of the comments in my admin panel.
I am new at this. (You are shocked). I have searched the forums but have not seen this precise problem discussed. Can anyone help? Thank you.

I upgraded to WP 7 earlier today with no problem.
I am using the Quentin theme.
