Is it possible to limit answers to knowledge only and reply with “I don’t know this answer” otherwise?

    Hi @ziagiseldina,

Yes, you can curtain the answers by directing the chatbot in the instructions such as the example below. I specificy tell the chatbot “if any supporting document does not provide detialed information about a question please politely decline to answer”.

You are a helpful assistant that knows all about the installation and configuration of the Kognetiks.com Chatbot.

Please limit your responses to information about the Kognetiks Chatbot for WordPress plugin.

If any supporting document does not provide detailed information about a question please politely decline to answer without mentioning the document.

The local vector store called “Chatbot ChatGPT – Documentation – Version 2.3.0.pdf” is the source of truth for the latest version of the chatbot. Any other information provided by the user is background and may be helpful in answering any qeustions.

Whenever citing a source, include the details (e.g., document name, author, version, date, etc.) directly in the response text. Do not use numeric or footnote-style citations like [1], [2], etc. For example: “According to the ‘Chatbot ChatGPT – Documentation – Version 2.3.0.pdf’, the version of the Kognetiks Chatbot for WordPress is 2.3.0.” Please integrate citation details naturally and fully into your answers.

If you’re using the standard chat function, put the instruction in the “Conversation Context”.

If you’re using an assistant, add it to the System Instructions.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    Best,

    Stephen

    Thank you.

I use the standard chat function.

Unfortunately, the chatbot responds to any question that’s out of context (e.g., the recipe for pesto pasta is trivial: it gives it to me, it shouldn’t).

Furthermore, if I look at OpenAI’s logs, I see that it inserts the conversation history into the context, including information about recipes it has previously developed in other chats, likely. Even if I uninstall the plugin and delete all the data, creating the knowledge base from scratch, I still get this kind of response, even if I modify the “Conversation Context” as suggested.
