When trying to view the page the map is on I get the following displayed in the map area:

    Oops! Something went wrong.
This page didn’t load Google Maps correctly. See the JavaScript console for technical details.

The map seems to start to load very briefly with a flash but it is then replaced with the above message.

It has been several hours since I got the API key so things should have happened at google’s end by now. I copied and pasted the API key so it should be correct.

I have an http restriction set with the text:
    *oldschoolbnb.com*

How do I access the “JavaScript console” if that will help.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Dear petern0691wp,

    Thanks for contacting us.
As you have already found on your own this issue is related to the Google API which may be generated incorrectly and as a result the error “Oops! Something went wrong” will be produced.
Could you, please, check out this tutorial and try to create an API using the instructions provided in the video?

We will wait for your results.
    Thanks

I did as per the tutorial the first time.

There is now NO registration link to click on . . . Should I go to google directly and create another key – will having two keys confuse things – having already looked it seems google wants to create key-2 rather than regenerate key-1 ?

    (@petern0691wp)

I have done a regenerate and copied and pasted the new key but no change.

It seems to be trying to work correctly. I have updated the lat and long to where I want and the momentary flash of the map I can see is the correct part of the planet. Actually when things are slow one can see the map quite clearly for about half a second before the Ooops appears.

    Dear petern0691wp,

Thank you very much for keeping us informed of your results.
Will it be possible to resend the link to the page where the map is added and we will check the map’s behavior at our end?

The link you have provided before seems to be incorrect: http://prntscr.com/hydmtl

We will wait for your reply

    Thanks

The link is correct – it is on a local server (ServerPress) – I would not think you will be able to access it ? http://oldschoolbnb.com.au.dev.cc/?page_id=82 The page URL was one of the fields I had to fill to initiate the support request. I would have to leave my local machine running, connected to the Internet, and the servers running, and leave a hole in the firewall (not sure how or what), and tell you my IP address, and then would you be able to access it ?

Will getting access to the JavaScript console help ? If so, how do I do that ?

Is there anything you can have me check out ?

I am running ZoneAlarm but it is not notifying me of any requests for access by anything to anything at the time of the Ooops appearing.

    Regards. Peter N.

I believe I have found the JavaScript console (ctrl-shift-J for my Chrome), and it shows nothing, ie the console frame is blank apart from a single “>” in the top left corner ?

    Dear petern0691wp,

Could you, please, inform which version of the plugin are you running currently?
The problem you have described should be fixed in the latest version of the plugin. If yours is not the latest one, please, update your plugin and inform us of your results.

    Thanks

My installed plugin list states Huge IT Google Map Version 2.2.8. This seems to be the latest version ?

    My WordPress is version 4.9.1.

    My ServerPress is version 3.8.4.

My JavaScript console has now shown the following (I have sanitised my API key – but it is the correct one as far as I can tell as per google).

    My google referrer filter is:
    *oldschoolbnb.com*

I see I missed sanitising one API key instance. I have generated and copy pasted in a new API key. (It made no difference by the way.)

    Dear petern0691wp,

Thank you very much for your observations.
It’s rather difficult to detect the issue without a live website but we suppose that the problem may be related to the API restrictions.
Could you check, please, if you have entered your domain names in the HTTP referrers field: https://prnt.sc/hzcrav ?

We will wait for your reply.

    Thanks

    Thread Starter petern0691wp

    (@petern0691wp)

I have changed the referer filter to:
    oldschoolbnb.com.au.dev.cc/*
    and it now works!

What was wrong with the earlier one:
    *oldschoolbnb.com*
    ??

The wild cards in the earlier should have included the later one ?

    Dear petern0691wp,

Frankly speaking, we are not sure why you have got that result.
The API key is related to the Google and unfortunately, we will not be able to answer your question properly.

In any case, it’s great that everything works fine 🙂

    Thanks
