I re-installed WordPress on my website at http://www.irishwriterheaven.ie (hosting provider: Register365, re-install triggered by hitting “Reset environment” in Register365 control panel) so it’s a very clean installation. Then I installed the Woocommerce plugin. When I hit “Activate” I received the following message:

“Oops, something went wrong

We’re sorry for the inconvenience. Please try reloading the page, or you can get support from the community forums.”

I have not installed any other plugins in this instance of WordPress.

Just to clarify, after seeing this error, was WooCommerce activated successfully, or did the plugin fail to activate?

If the plugin did not activate, please try the following steps:

Enable WordPress debug mode
In your wp-config.php file, add or update the following lines:

```
After enabling this, please try activating WooCommerce again and let us know if any error messages appear.

Check server requirements

1. Initially the activation failed, but after de-activating it it seemed to work until I got the same error message (“Oops, something went wrong…”) when I tried to access the Woocommerce home page.

2. Check the browser console for any errors (you can open it by pressing Ctrl + Shift + J in most browsers) and share any messages you see there.

I can see how frustrating it is to hit the WooCommerce Home screen and immediately run into the “Oops, something went wrong” message, especially on a fresh WordPress install. I am keen to help you get this unstuck.

From what you shared, the key clue is the ChunkLoadError and the 404 response for this file
/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/assets/client/admin/chunks/6145.js.
This usually points to WooCommerce admin JavaScript assets not being served correctly by the server, rather than a general WooCommerce configuration issue. Your System Status Report looks healthy overall, which supports that direction.

At this stage, the most effective next steps are hosting and file delivery related:
Please ask your hosting provider to check whether any server level caching, security rules, or file optimization is in place that could block or rewrite JavaScript files inside /wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/assets/. It would also help to ask them to confirm that the WooCommerce plugin files are fully present on disk and readable, and that no deployment or reset process removed or restricted parts of the assets/client/admin/chunks directory.

If your host can do so, a quick reinstallation of WooCommerce directly at the server level, deleting the existing WooCommerce plugin folder first and then reinstalling it, can also help ensure no files are missing or corrupted.

Dear LovingBro,

I sent your last email to Register365. They sent a reply that seemed to indicate that they had fixed the issue, but they had not. Here is the latest from me and them:

“8 Jan 2026 8:55 am. It’s not fixed yet, I’m afraid. I cleared the caches on my two browsers, MS Edge and Chrome, once again reinstalled WordPress (Register365 > Reset environment), and installed a new Woocommerce plugin. This time, unlike before, it activated, but when I attempted to go to Woocommerce > Home I got the same “Oops, something went wrong” message. I tried this procedure on both browsers, with the same result.

We have received an update from our infrastructure team regarding the WooCommerce error you were seeing.

They identified that a security rule on the server was incorrectly flagging specific JavaScript files within the WooCommerce installer, which prevented the ‘chunks’ folder from being created during installation. This is why the plugin appeared to install but then failed to load the dashboard correctly.

Our engineers have adjusted the server rules to allow these files to be written correctly and have verified that the full plugin structure is now present on the disk.

Please could you clear your browser cache and attempt to access the WooCommerce dashboard again?

Could you please confirm if you are still seeing the same error in the browser console that appeared before? If you haven’t checked recently, could you open the console (F12 or right-click → Inspect → Console) and see if any errors appear when you try to access WooCommerce > Home?

Hi there!

Thank you for sharing the error. This error indicates that a required WooCommerce JavaScript file (a “chunk”) is missing, blocked, or not loading correctly from the server. Until this file is accessible, the WooCommerce admin dashboard will fail to load.

For further troubleshooting, could you please first go to WooCommerce → Status → Tools and perform the following steps:
- WooCommerce transients – Clear
- Expired transients – Clear
- Clear template cache – Clear
- Capabilities – Reset Capabilities
- Clear customer sessions -Clear
Next, please clear your browser cache and then check again.

If that does not work, could you please contact your hosting provider, share the error with them, and ask if they can help resolve the file-loading issue?
