Operation Aborted: Going crazy!

    I am having a HUGE problem on my site. I’ll post an email I got from a reader today…

    This morning I can’t get any of your pages to stay loaded. The main http://www.icydk.com/ crashed instantly, but I managed to get your /index page to stay open long enough to hit the contact button. THAT page instantly crashed, but at least it stayed open so I could read your email address.

    What’s happening is the site is not loading completely – it crashes, and says “Internet Explorer cannot open this site…Operation Aborted” SEE THIS POST http://icydk.com/2007/09/05/site-problemspart-2/

    The only way to get my site to load without crashing is to wait for the WHOLE site to load before touching the mouse.

    AND if this helps, this problem is only happening in IE. It seems like it’s not happening in Firefox.

    I’ve asked everyone I can what the problem is, and no one can help me.

    Please…I’m desperate!

    I came across someone who claimed his software prevents any kind of freezing and crashing regardless of whether you’re using IE or not. I didn’t bookmark his site though!
    (Will return here if I can get his URL again!)

    your site crashed my ie7 in a similar fashion. Downloading the page stand alone and opening it in ie7 it blocks content, but loads, allowing the blocked content, the page continued to load without crashing.

    This probably isnt the answer you want, but this is what I would do if I were you..

    I would load your front page in a browser,

    view and save the source. Upload that .html page to a place on your site that can successfully open all the js you are using, etc.. (note that if you put it in a seperate directory or something, if you are using releative paths to your js they wont be able to load) crack open your own ie7 if you have it (you ought to, if you dont) and look at that newly uploaded page.

    Assuming that new page, which is JUST html is loading all your js, is able to load, you can rule out js issues.

    If its still crashing, its probably related to your js.

    At which point, you start systematically removing js calls until you find the source of the problem.

    If it loads, then you have to go back and take a look at the actual dynamic page and that may entail sytematically removing things from there in order to see the cause.

    In other words, there isnt a sure fire fix, that I see — you just have to eliminate things as you go along, and eventually the problem will go away.

    FYI. I got “Operation Aborted” as well but I think I am lucky that I just switch 2 lines of my code position in the header.php
    <head>
    I put <base href=…. /> UNDER
    <?php wp_head(); ?>
    …
    </head>
    and everything is solved.

    I have the same problem for one of my sites also, http://www.lindsayferguson.com/.
    Did further research, and found this documentation on the problem off of Microsoft’s site.

    As far as I can tell, this is not a plug in problem, which usually is the cause of any problems like this I’ve had in the past. When I change the theme, all works good, so this is a theme specific type of problem.
    The theme I’m using is Sun 1.0 by Skinpress.
    Anyone get any more concrete fixes, please share!

    jefmharris: The problem on your site appears to be caused by the “Ajax Calendar” plugin. Or, at least, the javascript it’s using. The javascript is trying to modify a calendar that does not actually exist on the page.

    If you’re not using a plugin, deactivate it.

    Sadly, even with the Ajax Calendar plugin deactivated, and removed from my server entirely, and purging the cache(s), the problem still persists. Looks like I’ll have to find a different template that bends to the will of IE…

    Through process of elimination, I found that the culprit in this case was that “Slimbox Plugin”.
    Of course the real culprit is IE…

    I was getting this on my site. Visitors using IE 6 or IE 7 kept getting “Operation Aborted” after the header finished drawing.

    In my case, the offending plugin was the jQuery Lightbox plugin v0.2 on WordPress 2.3.2.

    I have been having the same problem and switched from slimbox to Lighbox 2 WordPress plugin (http://www.4mj.it/lightbox-js-v20-wordpress/) and it seemed to have fixed the problem.

    I was having a similar event and found that it was being caused by a call to an external javascript running the ShareThis plugin. I swapped that plugin with Bookmarkify and it resolved the IE Operation Aborted issue.

    everyone, here’s my “simple” fix for those that want to use lightbox.

    instead of using the plug in, modify your footer.php and place all the required lightbox lines of code in the footer.

    this code goes in the footer:
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”/js/prototype.js”></script>
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”/js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects,builder”></script>
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”/js/lightbox.js”></script>
    <link rel=”stylesheet” href=”/css/lightbox.css” type=”text/css” media=”screen” />

    once its in the footer.. it gets parsed by IE last..and doesnt throw up the error. ive only tested it on IE 6 because i dont have IE7 installed yet.

    Both the slimbox and lightbox plugins caused this error for me. I used the manual method, putting the script tags in the header. Problem solved.
