    Hi there,

thanks for your free SEO plugin!! I am using Google Analytics and have inserted the UA Code via All in Ones SEO Plugin. According to the nes General Data Protection Protection Regulation which will be valid all over the EU from 25th of May useres of mobile websites must have the possibility to contradict the data collection which is realized by a js code which sets a cookie to prevent google from collecting any data.

Do you provide any option to integrate the code in your plugin? I’ve installed a plugin called Google Analytics Opt-Out but it doesn’t work properly with your plugin…

    Thanks for a short reply!!

    Best regards from Germany!

@gesineli thank you for your kind words and feedback, we appreciate it. 🙂

I believe that standard implementations of Google Analytics are compliant with GDPR because all of the collected data that is stored is not personally identifiable data. Google Analytics does use the visitor’s IP address (which is considered as personal data by GDPR) to determine the approximate location of the visitor, but the IP address itself is not stored. Some countries like Germany have stricter rules regarding the IP address, but you should be able to comply with them when you use the IP Anonymization feature.

In addition, cookies that are set by a visited website that count the number of visitors to that website don’t require consent according to the upcoming e-Privacy regulations, although those are still in draft. Both the fact that you use Google Analytics to track website statistics and cookies should, however, be mentioned in your Privacy Policy (as well as documentation on opting in/out in Germany).

The only way I can think of right now for someone to be in violation of GDPR using Google Analytics is if (1) you’ve modified the implementation of Google Analytics in order to retain a user’s IP address (or any other personally identifiable information), which would be in clear violation of both GDPR and Google Analytics’ Terms of Service – see section 7 of their terms; or/and (2) if you are including personally identifiable data in the site’s URL parameters.
