I hve down loaded the Autoptimize plugg in but if i enable the Optimize JavaScript Code? it kills the site is there a way around this ?

Sure; there’s a lot of troubleshooting-info in the FAQ @gratefullpain

Have a look at that info, try some of the things there and feel free to follow up with more specific questions here if you can’t get it working.
