    Hey all,

So, I decided to start a blog page for my family. Normally, I use cPanel, Plesk, or Virtialmin for server management. This time around, I thought I would take a shot at configuring a basic LAMP stack on a CentOS 7 VM. As such, I just got the site live and started installing and activating plugins. Naturally, Wordfence was the first one on the list.

Well, I was able to install all plugins without issue. Unfortunately, when I went to configure the WF firewall, for reasons unbeknownst to me, I’m being prompted for FTP credentials. I have a feeling it has something to do with the way Apache is configured, but I can’t seem to find any information on it.

Here is a link to a few Screenshots I uploaded to my NextCloud server.

I’ve had something similar happen in other WP installations, which usually ended up being incorrect permissions/ownership. The difference this time around is, I am able to install plugins, themes, and upload media, without issue. When it’s happened in the past, I was unable to install anything until I corrected the permissions. For whatever reason, this time around, it’s only preventing me from configuring the Wordfence firewall.

Any and all assistance you can provide me in getting this server properly configured would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    Server Specs:
    CentOS Linux release 7.7.1908 (Core)
    Apache 2.4.6
    Server version: 10.3.18-MariaDB MariaDB Server
    PHP 7.3.10 (cli)

Bump. Any ideas? So far, everything is working, except for Wordfence.

    Hi @pitsnetwork

The firewall optimization process needs to create or make changes to server configuration files in the document root directory where WordPress is installed and is the likely cause of the permissions issue.

I would like to have a look at your Wordfence diagnostics report and I can send manual instructions to optimize the firewall. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [@] wordfence [dot] com as the email and @pitsnetwork as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

    Thank you.

    Hi @wfphil,

Thanks for the response. My impatience got the best of me. I destroyed that VM, started fresh, and everything seems to be resolved now. It’s all functioning as intended. I’m thinking I may have skipped a PHP module when I upgraded from 7.2 to 7.3. Again, thanks for the time. I forgot to mark it a resolved. 😉

    Best Regards,
