Optimizing for Speed Front and Backend

    Hello,
    Looking for some advice on how we can improve speed on our site, particularly our extremely slow back-end.

    It’s my thought that our host may be the biggest drawback, but this is also my first wordpress site to work on, so I am looking for some guidance from the community.
    I’ve attached a look at what plugins we have. We, obviously, use WP Rocket which seems to have help-ed a lot with our GTMetrix score and others.

    We also use the WP Rocket CDN and optimize images using Imagify. We operate on PHP 7.4 and our SQL is 5.6.

    The biggest problem is the back-end, just switching from Products to Pages or trying to edit products takes a minimum of 10-20 seconds to load. Other times when opening a bunch of products to edit I get a database missing error or a WP Install screen.
    I had our host upgrade our shared hosting plan to “WP Esential” which allows to make 150k database queries an hour instead of 75k so we don’t get kicked off the site every 20 minutes.

    What other information would be helpful? Any suggestions for what could be causing our site, back and front-end, to be sooo slow??

    Hi there,

    Thank you for reaching out and I’m sorry to hear about the site speed issues!

    From what you’re describing here, it indeed sounds like your host is the bottleneck here.

    One thing you could try is testing if WordPress is still slow with all plugins disabled and a default theme like Twenty Twenty enabled. If it is – that’s a good indication that you might need a new host.

    If the server resources are insufficient for all the additional plugins you’re using – there’s also a good chance that you need a new host.

    One more thing you could try is installing a similar set of plugins (and your theme) on a temporary site like Jurassic Ninja:

    That will allow you to determine how the same set of plugins and theme would behave on a different server.
