ordering docs

I’d like to affect the order that the docs are displayed on the page.

I see what looks like this funcitonality listed as a “feature request” on this support page, but I want to make sure that means it doesn’t exist.

Assuming the feature doesn’t exist can you tell me how the docs *are* ordered? Is it ascending by date added (or ID?). Trying to figure out how to hack an order by touching the database.
