Output as 'text' not converting

    I’m using following code in theme file but output is not converting to text … it’s still showing html tags like bold, italic, hyperlink. I want to remove all html tags. Is following code correct?

    <?php echo wpws_get_content($url, $selector, 'output=text'; ?>
