Overloaded server

Hi, I have 30 feeds and over 50.000 posts in my data base. I have problem with the server, when the plugin starts working my site becomes unreacheable.

How can I limit checking duplicates at 1000 latest posts? How can I restrict the launch of cron on all feeds at once?
