Override tooltip.php with Custom Plugin

I am looking to do a template override on the tooltip.php and single-event.php files through a custom plugin.

Now, I know I can do a template override with a child theme, but these changes would need to be made frequently and having everything in a plugin would be easier.

I have the changes I need for the tooltip.php and single-event.php file completed. I need to know if there is a function that will point the event system to look in the directory of my plugin for additional template overrides.
