Padding or Margins in HTML

In the theme I’m using, there’s a “excerpt” in which I can input HTML. I have attempted a few padding options to get some margins and to get the text and image aligned with one another, but obviously further from the edges of the page. Is there some margins or padding html I can use here? I’ve attempted the <p style=”padding-right: 30px;”></p> tactic, but that yielded no results.
