padding-top mystery

Hi,
here is an example for a frequent problem that I have:

If you’re using firefox, you can see that in the blue box there is a padding-top of 10px. however, there is no such thing in IE, nor is anywhere in the css that could possibly be the cause. how can I get rid of that tenacious padding?
