page template as a plugin

    I have created a universal page template that other bloggers are interested in using. I want to make it as easy as possible for them to use it and so I wondered if there was some way to distribute it as a plugin.

    Is there some way to write a plugin so that it registers a page template in the drop down to choose when you add a new page?

    As an update, I currently use a synchronize function which is called when a post is published or updated and ensures that theme files available with the plugin are copied into the current theme directory.

    This makes the page templates available when publishing new pages.
