Pages disappeared

I installed a fresh copy of WordPress on HostPapa. It worked fine. I made a few preliminary pages, then followed Codex instructions to create a subdirectory network with the MultiSite feature to allow me to develop parallel static websites in two or more languages. The SuperAdmin menu works on the backend. But now only the original page shows up. The contents of the other pages I authored remain in the editing area but when I try to view them, I get a 404 error and no page. As a newbie, any help would be appreciated.
