• I used dreamhosts for hosting and before I knew what I was doing, I created an entire WordPress website (via dreamhost’s WP panel) before getting my domain name. I now have my domain and I’m trying to get all the pages/etc transferred over to that domain’s WP.

    What I’ve done so far:
Uploaded all the files (wp_admin, wp_content, wp_includes) to the new domain folder

Updated the wp_config file to reflect the new address

Updated php files with new address where necessary

Exported the original SQL file and went through and changed all instances of my old domain to my new one

Uploaded the new SQL file via myphpadmin

Tried redoing all of this in case I messed up the first time

I don’t know what else to do 🙁 no matter what, I can never get the files/pages/ anything to show on the new WP admin panel. Any changes I make via the admin panel, like changing the site name, are reflected on the SQL database. Also, it recognizes all my themes and plugins that are in the database but not the pages/media.

  • I’d say call Dreamhost at this point.

I’m not familiar with Dreamhost or their control panel but usually, the directory added when you add a domain is not the directory used to contain your web content.

The directory for the content is the ‘web root’ and Dreamhost is in a place to help you with that. They may even move that for you rather than have a second support call.
