    Hi

I am using the free version of Yoast to add breadcrumbs to a site built with Elementor.
(I can’t share the link as the page isnt live yet).

I want to the breadcrumbs to be like this:

    Home >> Parent >> Child

But what I am getting is:

    Home >> Child

Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks

    Hello @tim_marston

Thanks for using Yoast SEO. Could you let me know if the Parent and Child are WordPress pages or WordPress posts?

    Hi

Thanks for getting back to me. They are custom posts.

    Here is an example:

Thanks for sharing an example. I assume Locations is the CPT while /luxury-holiday-cottages-bowness/ is a post assigned to it, so the breadcrumb path should be Home » Locations » Luxury Holiday Cottages Bowness-on-Windermer.

    • Though the breadcrumbs work fine on posts, do they work on default WordPress pages where parent/child is enabled?
    • Can you share a full screenshot of what you have in WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > Advanced > Breadcrumbs? You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.
    • Is the custom post type, Locations editable in the WordPress admin dashboard or dynamically created?
    • Do you have a plugin that modifies permalinks such as the Permalink Manager Pro?

    Hi Maybelline

    Thanka for the detialed reply.

I will do my best to answer your questions.

On normal blog posts the breadcrumbs are working perfeclty:

“Do they work on default WordPress pages where parent/child is enabled?”

This is a default WP page:

    https://laik.co.uk/locations/

And the breadcrumb is working fine.

    Here are my settings:

“Is the custom post type, Locations editable in the WordPress admin dashboard or dynamically created?”

    Yes Locations is editable.

“Do you have a plugin that modifies permalinks such as the Permalink Manager Pro?”

    No

Thanks for the responses, @tim_marston. I tried to replicate your parent/child relationship for a CPT and my breadcrumbs work fine. See screenshot.

do they work on default WordPress pages where parent/child is enabled?

Here’s what I meant. You have /locations/ as a WordPress page. Can you create or assign another page as a child under it? Does the breadcrumb work so you have Home > Locations > Child Page.

Can you share a full screenshot of what you have in WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > Advanced > Breadcrumbs?

I do not see Locations as a CPT in the settings but Properties. Can you show me the post types and taxonomies settings in WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings? Here’s mine.

It would also be helpful if you let me know how the CPTs were created. I used the PODS plugin for mine as the issue might be how they were created.

I couldnt create normal page as a child under locations.

But I created this child page as a test and yes the breadcrumbs work fine:

Thanks for the screenshots and calrification, @tim_marston. The breadcrumbs work for pages and posts so it’s unclear why they don’t work for CPTs. Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.
