I have an error code displaying and I can no longer access my website at all

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’ in /home/leylac/public_html/wp-content/themes/leylas-edits/functions.php on line 4

There is no way for me to log in to change this and even non-admins can no longer access my website. I am quite new to wordpress so would appreciate any help! Thanks

  • Hello,
what did you put in your child-theme functions.php?

In order to revert your changes you need to access to your server, ftp or cpanel and remove/rename/amend that file.

    Did this help?

    Hi,

I added code to remove the post-meta on my blog. The error code appeared straight away so I removed it and uploaded the file again but this error persisted and now I can’t log in to wordpress at all and my site is down. I host via GoDaddy and have tried to access the cpanel and it says this webpage is not available! Please tell me I haven’t lost everything?!

    Hello,
well probably you made some typos adding that code.
Anyway you can remove that file.
Which webpage isn’t available? GoDaddy page? So it’s a GoDaddy issue, maybe it’s just a temporary one. You should contact them for that.

Nope you haven’t lost everything. 😉

GoDaddy seems fine until I click manage in my webhosting section, then it tells me the webpage has timedout. Hopefully this is a GoDaddy error and nothing to do with my site and I can try and fix this later! Phew!

I just realised that I can’t get into the webhosting page on GoDaddy because ‘the website may be down’, which is it. So what now??

You have to have a backend access to your hosting website.
Contact them they will help you 😉

Going to take a look at FTP now, hopefully this will work!

It worked! I have taken the time to learn how to use FTP so I just deleted the file from there and my website is back up and running http://www.themotivationproject.com/ thank you for your help 🙂

    Glad you solved leyla!
