I “administer” our marching band website. I haven’t touched in in a couple of weeks. Now everyone who goes to the site gets this error message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/39/8354239/html/wp-content/themes/minamaze/lib/widgets/categories.php on line 145

I can’t get in via my administration password. I am as ignorant as you can immagine as what to do – please help me.

might be theme or plugin conflict.
often the solution is to remove the theme or plugin.
do you have a backup of your website?
do you have access codes to your webhosting account?

Thank you for answering me. I am so worried.

I have no idea what it means to back up my website.

I do have access codes to our GoDaddy account.

morslene, you can try to access using FTP (or your hosting file manager) and go to wp-content/theme/ folder and rename minamaze folder to minamaze-off

Then, if you have any default theme in the themes folder (i.e. Twenty Fourteen) you will be able to access to your site.

most likely, the database containing most of the content is not impacted by the error in your theme/plugin.

Be sure you are regularly backing up your website files and database using an automated tool like BACKUPBUDDY plugin or VAULTPRESS tools. (automated backup tools)

    http://vaultpress.com/

investing in a backup solution will save time + stress if you have any more serious trouble in future.

I don’t know what you mean Samuel. Where do I find they wp-content/theme/folder? On GoDaddy? On my personal hard drive?

    What is FTP?

contentiskey – I will certainly do that.

Folks – please use little words, I am a helpless marching band dad misplaced in this world.

contact godaddy and have one of their tech support team members walk you thru on your webhosting account to get to the FILE MANAGER. ask them to help you locate the folder containing your wordpress website files. Within the folder named WP CONTENT you will find a folder named THEMES and a folder named PLUGINS. You can delete the problem THEME and/or PLUGIN from those folders.

Also ask godaddy about any automated backup options they offer to backup both your database and files. (i don’t use backup solutions from godaddy so i am not sure what they currently offer)

i prefer 3rd party solutions like vaultpress or backupbuddy.
