Parse Error on activation

    Just added this plugin, and when I try to activate it I get

    
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in [path]/wp-content/plugins/simple-vertical-timeline/admin/svt-settings.php on line 80

    i removed the full path and just put [path] for the purpose of this question.

    any ideas?

    I am getting a similar error with the latest version of the plugin. I used both master and tag 0.1

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in [path]/wp-content/plugins/simple-vertical-timeline-master/admin/svt-settings.php on line 94

    PHP: 5.4.24
    wordpress: 4.7.5
