I was trying to modify the functions.php stylesheet and now no matter where I go i receive the message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/larissaoneiros/retroblasting.com/wp-content/themes/pixel/functions.php on line 45.

I pasted the working code into a word document and repasted it back in, but this does not fix the problem. Please help as my entire site is now broken!

I pasted that in and clicked “Update File” but I still get the Parse error message. Is it time to panic?

Do you have a caching plugin installed?

    (@retroblasting)

I don’t think so… As you can probably tell I’m somewhat of a novice, so I don’t know what that would be.

How are you editing the functions.php file at the moment?

    Thread Starter retroblasting

    (@retroblasting)

In the browser window where I was editing up until this happened…. I’m fairly certain if I close it I won’t be able to access my site at all. Is there another way?

Do you have access to your website’s files and folders? Aka “FTP” access?

    (@retroblasting)

I can go in through DreamHost and click something called “Restore DB” – would that reset things? Or delete everything I’ve posted?

I don’t have access to anything through my website. If I type that into a browser for any page of my site I get that same error message.

I don’t know what options in Dreamhost do.

Ask Dreamhost if they can show you how to get to the screen where you can upload files.

Have you been editing any more files from your theme?

    Thread Starter retroblasting

    (@retroblasting)

Yes, I adjusted the width of the banner, and that seemed to work. Previously I used FileZilla to upload themes. Could I use that?

Yes. Use FileZilla to find your “/wp-content/themes/” directory

    Thread Starter retroblasting

    (@retroblasting)

Got it. Within that theme do I find the theme functions and update with what you sent?

Yes, it’ll be in your “pixie” folder

    Thread Starter retroblasting

    (@retroblasting)

I don’t see a “pixie” folder… but if I right click on functions.php I can View/Edit and use Notepad to enter the updated info. Will that work?

No, that sounds like a big risk if you don’t know that you’re in your theme’s folder. Ask your hosting providers to help you find your theme’s “functions.php” file here:
