Parse error: syntax error, unexpected

    HI, I’m new to WP.
    I usually do not use WP, but I just inherit site ( http://hesperusplayszorro.com/ )written in WP and it has this eror:
    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/93/10637493/html/index.php on line 18

    I can logged in into admin site and replaced template (at Appearance/Editor) index.php with nothing (well, a plain text line says ‘Hello’)

    It does not show any changes on the published site.

    So where does line 18 come from? index.php only has one line. unless I edited the wrong file or there is overhead that not listed.
