    Just installed this today and getting the following error when trying to activate it:

    Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in …/wp-content/plugins/feed-them-social/includes/feed-them-functions.php on line 69

    I’ve deactivated everything but still nothing.

    Couldn’t find this error posted anywhere so hoping you have some options for me to try.

    Looks like a good plugin if I can get it to work.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for contacting us.

    Is your server running at least php5.3? Usually that error occurs when running below php5.3.

    I’ve seen this same error after the last two updates of this plugin and it’s very frustrating. I’ve been able to resolve it by updating the “feed-them-functions.php” file…

    =-=-=-=-=-=

    FIX: Open the following file and make this change…

    FILE: wp_content > plugins > feed-them-social > includes > feed-them-functions.php

    Remove this content starting at line 69:

    add_action( ‘admin_notices’, function() use ($error_msg) {
    echo $error_msg;
    });

    =-=-=-=-=-=-=

    Activate the plugin, clear any caches and you should be good to go.

    Ideally you should update the actual file via FTP, not through WP Admin.

    As always, make a backup and keep a copy of the original file just in case.

    Hope that helps and hope the devs are able to resolve this permanently because it is a pretty good plugin.

    @ricksadamns… Thanks for posting the fix… can you submit the info from our fts System Info menu so I can see what may possibly be causing this problem.

    When you get the error what exactly are the steps that is creating it.
    Do you have premium active and when you go to update the FREE one then it throws the error? Any insight would be helpful and we would love to correct this problem. Thanks!

    Thanks for the fix option, that allowed me to activate it.

    I am using the free version atm. I got my error while trying to activate it as mentioned in the op.

    Now that I have it activated, I can generate the report:

    Thanks.

    Glad I could help.

    The site in question is also using the free version of FTS at the moment.

    The application installed and ran fine a little over a month ago. The error occurred during the plugin’s upgrade one version ago and again with the current upgrade to v1.5.4

    It appears that the client is running an older version of PHP (5.2.17) so that is probably what’s causing the issue for me. I’ll find out why and upgrade it if there isn’t a good reason and post back my results.

    That is why you are having problems on each upgrade.

    Quick follow up…success!

    After updating the client’s server to a more current version of PHP I replaced FTS’ feed-them-functions.php file with the original. After activating it again I did not receive the error. It appears to be working fine.

    Apologies for the trouble as it was a problem on our end, not the plugin.

    FWIW here is the new system info:

    Awesome, we love to hear good news!

    e’ve since added a php check too, so when people who have a version of php 5.2.9 or lower and nice message will appear notifying that you need to update to php 5.3 or greater to use our plugin.
