• Please help, I am new to basic coding & WordPress theme set ups. Currently using Media Temple as my host/grid server.

I made some small changes to to my WordPress Theme Avada & have come up with this msg –
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /nfs/c07/h04/mnt/173689/domains/summersaltlife.com.au/html/wp-content/themes/Avada/functions.php on line 626

I can’t even jump into the backend of the theme! I think my only option is to un-install the theme then re-install it but I have NOT IDEA WHERE TO START!

    Can you help me?

  • You’ll need to use FTP or Cpanel to deactivate or delete that theme – you can find the theme’s folder here:

    wp-content
         themes
Avada - RENAME OR DELETE THIS FOLDER

Thank you for your help…though I have no idea where I’m suppose to copy & paste that code?

I have no access to Cpanel or FTP, at least I don’t know how to get access to it! The theme was purchased my a 3rd party & admin login details where sent on to me!

You need to use FTP to access the files on your server – see:

    https://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/131/Using+FTP+and+SFTP#gs

You’ll need an FTP client on your local computer – this is a good one:

    https://filezilla-project.org/

If you need additional help with setting up FTP, ask MediaTemple – that’s not part of WP.

Once you have that set up, navigate to the theme’s folder and rename or delete the theme you messed up.

Ok great, I’ll do my best come the morning! thank you WPyogi i’ll be in touch no doubt!

Hey Elise, how did you go with that? Do you or WPyogi know if you can just delete the file of the theme you’re having issues with (like function.php) or if I would have to delete the entire theme? I feel like if I did that I would lose everything!
