You could open a the manage file module and select File Status: Hidden. That will hide the file to all users except the owner and admins.
Then you could add a group of users as Contributors. This would show the documents to the owner any admins and any contributors to the file.
The only down side to this method is if that user type you added as a contributor also has the ability to upload files they will be able to see and edit the file from the dashboard view.
Thanks for responding. I am not sure that method is sustainable. I have over 100 users (members with logins at different ‘levels’). I would have to constantly update them as they progress so that can get access to documents they couldn’t earlier. If I could set a password on a specific document, then I could just tell them the password when the time is right.
